The Fanning sisters, Elle and Dakota, are in talks to team up as siblings (method!) for a planned feature film about the sixties family girl-group curiosity the Shaggs. The Shaggs, one of rock’s quirkier no-hit wonders, were comprised of four New Hampshire sisters — Dot, Betty, Helen, and Rachel Wiggin — who had no seeming musical aptitude, but formed a band anyway because their father, Austin Wiggin, insisted his mother’s session with a palm reader pre-visioned their global success despite their awkward, gangly appearance.

They recorded one cacophonous album, 1969’s Philosophy of the World, which was widely derided, and they laid down the instruments they weren’t quite sure what to do with in the first place after their father’s death in 1975. But they did have their fans, like Frank Zappa, who infamously called them “better than the Beatles,” and the band NRBQ, which rereleased the girls’ album in 1982.

Cherubic child star Dakota Fanning is all grown up and, it seems, getting very serious about this whole acting thing. The teen star has just booked not one, not two, but three films. It looks like we finally have someone to take over Natalie Portman’s role of starring in every other movie once she goes on maternity leave. Phew!

Dakota will first hop on this whole The King’s Speech bandwagon by playing a young Princess Margaret in Girl’s Night Out. The flick finds her and sis Queen Elizabeth enjoying one wild night outside the confines of Buckingham Palace. No word on whether or not young Margaret is then chided by her stuttering father.

Dakota Fanning is going wild, Mississippi Wild, that is. The film will follow a teen, portrayed by actor Ryan Donowho, “who has to go on the run with his girlfriend (Fanning) after stealing diamonds that belong to a local gangster.” Ruh-Roh.

Texas-born Donowho is an actor as well as a musician. He took part in the third season of The O.C. and appeared in ’09 in Bandslam with Vanessa Hudgens.

Collider reports “Robert Duvall, Mickey Rourke, and Forest Whitaker are in negotiations to co-star”. They snagged the news from Variety. Rourke and Whitaker would likely portray rival gangsters. I like that!

Breakfast Club star Judd Nelson has suggested that Dakota Fanning might be the greatest actress in history.

Speaking to MTV News, the actor claimed that Fanning will one day rank among the most acclaimed icons in the history of cinema.

“I certainly think that Dakota Fanning may be the best actor ever, on the planet, throughout history,” Nelson said.

He then joked: “I don’t know, either she’s a pituitary mutant, or maybe she’s an alien.”

The actor then praised today’s crop of young stars, adding that he hopes they have the chance to explore a variety of roles over the course of their respective careers.

“I think there are a number of really gifted actors and actresses working today, and you just hope that they get the opportunity to grow as they get older and to not be pigeonholed as this kind of actor or actress,” he added.

In the 1980s, Nelson was a member of a group of stars known as the ‘Brat Pack’ alongside Demi Moore, Molly Ringwald and Rob Lowe among others.

Fanning will next appear in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 1, which is released on November 18 in US and UK cinemas. [Source]
